Planning Your Christmas on the Coast

We all know that Christmas preparations can be stressful – there’s presents to buy, a huge meal to prepare and tipsy relatives to contend with. However, we firmly believe that there’s no reason why the festive season should send you into a panic. Christmas should be a time to unwind with loved ones, and we think we know exactly how you can ensure that’s the case.

Packing up your bags and escaping to the coast doesn’t have to be reserved for the summertime. St Ives is a fabulous place to spend your Christmas – here’s what you can expect from your seasonal coastal getaway.

Carols

What would Christmas be without a bit of a sing-song? St Ives Community Choir will be performing on 17th December at Fore Street Methodist Church. Starting at 7pm, the choir will be singing under the banner of ‘Cornish Carols’ and we’re sure they’ll make it their mission to put you in the festive spirit!

Festival spirit

Just 20 minutes away in Penzance you’ll find the Montol Festival – a six-day arts and community festival that celebrates the midwinter solstice and Cornish traditions. From 14th until 22nd December, there will be lantern- and mask-making workshops, carol services, storytelling and late-night shopping in Penzance. On Montol Eve, the 21st December, there will be an impressive procession through the streets commencing at 6pm from St John’s Hall.

Relax

One of the best things about heading away for Christmas is that somebody else is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly. At St Ives Harbour Hotel, Christmas Day itself starts with a glass of something sparkly and a full English breakfast. When it gets to lunchtime you’re in for a real treat – five courses will be served up, along with live festive entertainment. In the afternoon there’ll be Christmas cake to be enjoyed, and at 7pm a Christmas buffet will be on offer – all of that and no washing up. What more could you want?

Another fantastic thing about being by the coast for Christmas is the fabulous Christmas Day walk that you’ll get to enjoy. A blustery stroll along the beach will wake you up just in time for the Queen’s Christmas message!
