September Entertainment: What’s On

October sees the clocks go back and with that change will come shorter days and, most likely, a drop in temperature. Of course, we love St Ives all year round – but while there are still a few drops of September sunshine left, it’s especially nice to make the effort to get to the coast.

To help you decide on a few things for your itinerary while you’re here, we’ve put together a handy little guide to some of our top entertainment picks for the last couple of weeks of the month.

St Ives September Festival

If you make it in time to catch the tail end of the St Ives September Festival then you’re in for an absolute treat. It’s on for 15 days throughout September and every day offers a jam-packed schedule of entertainment, talks and workshops. On the 23rd you can catch free music and poetry in Norway Square from 12.30pm; the Porthmeor Studio 5, Kidz R Us Theatre and the beach will have visual art, workshops and music created by young people from 3pm; and Djazz Celtica will be performing world folk and gypsy jazz at Penwith Gallery from 7pm. On the 24th, how about seeing Baka Beyond at The Guildhall – a live multimedia show featuring music, dance and videos from the Cameroon rainforest? Or, why not catch the Sweet n’ Sour: Comedy Group at the St Ives Art Club from 7.30pm? Five performers join forces to bring an improvised show that will hopefully tickle your funny bone.

The Castle Inn

Phew – if you weren’t completely exhausted after getting to as many St Ives Festival events as you could, then you’ll also find a few great acts performing at The Castle Inn. The Dowling Thing is a four-piece band featuring banjo, fiddle, electric bass, drums and vocals. Catch them at the cosy Cornish pub from 9pm on 23rd September – make sure you put on your dancing shoes, you’ll need them!

Working Party

Head to Steeple Woodlands on 28th September at 9.30am and do a little good. The Working Party undertakes tasks dependent on what is most needed – so habitat management, tree planting and footpath maintenance are all possibilities. We know it’s not technically a party as you and I may know it – but it gets you outdoors and you’ll meet some like-minded people, while doing some good. For more information, contact Giles on 01736 798908.

We think it’s safe to say that the end of September has plenty to offer! If you’re interested in booking an autumn getaway, then get in touch with the team at St Ives Harbour Hotel to secure your room.
