Summer Activities For Kids in St Ives
Was there anything more exciting as a child than heading to the seaside? Some of our favourite childhood memories are of family holidays – dipping our toes in the water, enjoying an ice cream on a hot day, and generally spending quality time with our nearest and dearest.
If you’ve now got children of your own and you’re keen to make sure that they have the same sort of fond seaside memories that you do, then St Ives is a wonderful place to take them. Here’s what you can get up to with the kids when you visit.
Hayle swimming pool
Located just a few miles away from St Ives itself, Hayle swimming pool is technically a lido. The freshwater (no chlorine, so great for sensitive eyes!) pool is 25m x 12.5m and offers a safe space for younger ones to learn to swim. The pool isn’t heated; do keep that in mind before taking the plunge!
St Ives Surf School
We know this idea might strike fear into some of the more nervous of parents, but trust us when we say that it’s a safe and fun activity for all ages! The school offers courses, individual lessons, group sessions and private tuition. For those aged under eight, a parent or guardian needs to supervise the lesson and they’ll be provided with a wetsuit free of charge.
If you’re looking for an easy way to while away an afternoon then the Royal Cinema is a great place to head to. It’s part of the small Merlin Cinemas chain and, over the summer, you’ll find all sorts of family friendly flicks on, including The Secret Life of Pets (which we’re fairly certain you’ll enjoy just as much as the kids!).
Of course, if all of that isn’t good enough, then there’s always the good old-fashioned bucket and spade at the beach! Sometimes, the simplest activities are the best – especially when you’re somewhere as fabulous as St Ives.
