Upcoming Exhibitions in St Ives
Picture the scene: you’ve stepped off the beach for a quick stroll around the streets, wandered into any one of the multiple art galleries on offer, and accidentally discovered your new favourite artist.
For an art buff, it’s the dream. Finding new talent isn’t always easy if you don’t live in the city – however, in St Ives, this scenario is a daily reality. No matter what the time of year, there is always art to admire and, more often than not, it’s art that could easily stand up next to anything you would find in London’s galleries. Here are some of the upcoming exhibitions in St Ives that we think you shouldn’t miss.
From 16th July until 29th August you can catch Chris Keenan’s new work exhibition at the New Craftsman Gallery in St Ives. Keenan is one of the United Kingdom’s most respected ceramicists, with works held in collections at the V&A Museum in London. The new series is elegant and explores Keenan’s interest in asymmetric design.
From 30th July until 30th August you can see the work of Tony Shiels at Belgrave St Ives. Shiels is an artist who lived in St Ives for some time and was associated with some of the biggest names around. He now lives in County Kerry and, as an artist, has always been interested in landscape, seascape and abstraction. Over the years he has also become increasingly attracted to the surreal – he even wrote three books on magic.
From now until 1st September head to Penwith Gallery and view the Photo Pioneer Photo Primitive exhibition. The work displayed is a mixture of analogue and digital, meaning there’s something for every taste. The exhibition features botanical prints, photographs showing the nature of stone and a whole host of other pictures that explore landscape.
If you’re always on the lookout for your new favourite artist, or you’re in need of a new painting for your living room, then St Ives is the place for you. To arrange your coastal getaway, get in touch with the team at St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa.
